# How to Navigate with Bikepaths Routes

This guide explains how to take route files from this portal and load them into mobile navigation apps for offline use on a bicycle tour.

## 1. Choosing a Mobile App

We recommend offline vector map applications that do not require continuous cellular reception:
- **OsmAnd (Android / iOS):** Powerful, feature-rich offline navigation engine with elevation profiles, turn-by-turn guidance, and hillshade layers.
- **Organic Maps (Android / iOS):** Fast, lightweight, open-source, and easy to use with zero battery bloat.

## 2. Downloading Route GPX Files

1. Open the [Travels Portal](index.html) and select an expedition segment.
2. Click the **Download GPX** button next to the desired route.
3. Save the `.gpx` file to your mobile device downloads folder.

## 3. Importing into OsmAnd

1. Open OsmAnd on your phone or tablet.
2. Tap **My Places** > **Tracks**.
3. Tap the **+** (Import) button and select the downloaded `.gpx` file.
4. Toggle the track visible on map. You can configure color, thickness, and elevation markers.

## 4. Safety & Offline Precautions

- Always download offline regional map packages over Wi-Fi before entering wilderness corridors.
- Keep a secondary offline GPS backup or paper route notes.
- Carry a dedicated battery bank to preserve device power in remote segments.
